Article

Fort Worth, TX-Alcon recently launched Toric Pro, a new app that gives cataract surgeons a number of tools in a single app intended to improve their knowledge on toric IOL procedures for treating astigmatism at the time of surgery.

Comparing laser-assisted vs. conventional refractive cataract surgery

According to Alcon, more than half of today’s cataract patients have astigmatism that can be treated with an AcrySof IQ Toric IOL. The new app is intended to help empower cataract surgeons to identify toric IOL candidates and achieve desired outcomes.

One feature of Toric Pro is the ability to simulate surgical practice for pre-op reference and intra-op axis marking of the eye. Toric Pro also offers a tool to capture and upload post-operative patient data to analyze surgically-induced astigmatism. Other features of the app include comprehensive information on toric IOL benefits, tips and pearls for the unique aspects of the toric IOL implantation procedure, a library of tutorial videos, and a link to the AcrySof IQ Toric Calculator.

The Toric Pro for iPad App, which is currently available in the U.S. only, is a free download on the App Store.
