Bausch + Lomb has officially launched its ASANA gas permeable (GP) lenses in the US, offering eye care providers a “versatile, all-in-one comprehensive GP portfolio featuring spherical, aspheric, toric, multifocal, multifocal toric, reverse geometry, and keratoconic contact lenses,” according to a news release.1
“Many still prefer rigid gas permeable contact lenses for clear, comfortable and consistent vision,” said Yang Yang, president of Global Vision Care at Bausch + Lomb, in the release. “ASANA offers eye care professionals a catalog of customizable GP lenses designed to fit each patient’s unique corneal curves, ensuring a fantastic fit and sharp vision. These GP lenses also complete our custom Specialty Vision Products lens portfolio, offering a comprehensive range of options – from scleral to custom soft, ortho-K and now custom GP lenses.”
The lenses are designed to maintain their shape throughout the day in order to provide excellent visual acuity, according to Bausch + Lomb. With a rigid material that resists protein and fatty deposits, ASANA is also to maintain clarity and comfort throughout the day of wear. The company states that the lenses are highly durable and have a strong resistance to breaking and chipping. This then makes the lenses a cost-effective option due to less frequent replacement. ASANA lenses are able to address more complex vision challenges such as high corneal astigmatism, severe refractive errors, keratoconus, corneal irregularities, and post-surgical vision correction needs.1
“Rigid gas permeable corneal contact lenses are an excellent option for certain patients, and having access to consultants to assist with fittings is a critical component of success,” said James R. Hoffman, OD, FAAO, of Orange Park Eye Center in Orange Park, Florida, in the release. “With ASANA, eye care professionals get both, along with fast manufacturing and shipping times, a generous warranty period and an extensive range of lens designs such aspherical, toric, multifocal and more. It’s an excellent option, particularly for busy practices.”
The lenses are custom made exclusively with Boston materials. The EZ-Exchange Warranty Program allows for an unlimited amount of lens remakes for 120 days, according to the company. To place an order or learn more about the lenses, visit Bausch + Lomb’s website.1
In other recent news, the company also terminated pursuant to the terms of the Amended and Restated Director Appointment and Nomination Agreement with the company and Carl C. Icahn last month. This termination followed the Icahn group’s net long position falling below the required threshold. In connection to the termination, Brett M Icahn and Gary Hu resigned from the Bausch + Lomb Board of Directors.2
“I appreciate Brett and Gary’s valuable contributions to the company over the past three years, and wish them well going forward,” said Brent Saunders, chairman and CEO at Bausch + Lomb, in a news release.
