We are so excited to announce the return of the Controversies in Modern Eye Care symposium as a live and in-person event taking place this year on Sunday, April 30, 2023, at the Skirball Center in Los Angeles, California.

This is the 17th year in a row that we have hosted this meeting, which historically has been the second largest continuing education (CE) meeting for Southern California optometrists. Prior to the pandemic, we would have around 400 in attendance and we saw that number close to double when we went virtual over the past couple of years. I will be chairing the meeting with Robert Maloney, MD, and Neda Shamie, MD, and we are making the most of the return to an in-person event by implementing a number of new and exciting changes.

We have expanded the meeting to a full day, which means more opportunities for mingling, networking, and wet labs, and more CE. Breakfast and lunch will be provided and we have an amazing keynote speaker, Heather Hasson, one of the co-founders of the iconic FIGS brand. We have a great agenda comprising both local and national doctors and optometrists from multiple subspecialties, and we are anticipating some very interesting discussions. Historically, what has made this symposium unique besides the fun flair is that we are not afraid to shy away from controversial topics or debate. Sometimes there are no absolute right answers, so we embrace debating the modern issues in eye care as ultimately this is what allows us all to learn from each other.

I can’t wait to see everyone this month!
