Get in the groove at AOA and AOSA's Optometry's Meeting 2024

Bookmark June 19-22, 2024, for 127th Annual American Optometric (AOA) Congress and 56th Annual American Optometric Student Association Conference: Optometry's Meeting in Music City.

AOA President Steven T. Reed, OD, invites attendees to take advantage of the extensive course offerings, “Harmonize Their Vision,” and create harmony with colleagues at the 2024 meeting. The venue is the Music City Center, 201 Rep. John Lewis Way S, Nashville, Tennessee.

Doctors of optometry, paraoptometrics, and future optometrists are invited to this annual convocation that offers an industry-renowned, comprehensive selection of optometric continuing education (CE) and professional development courses that are designed to meet the ever-evolving needs of optometrists, paraoptometrics and practice staff, as well as optometry students.

There is something for everyone, ranging from fulfilling optometry board or paraoptometric certification CE requirements or advancing optometric knowledge, business acumen and clinical prowess. The meeting planners boast of learning opportunities suitable for every member of the care team.

On the agenda

Keynote address. Leading Artificial Intelligence authority Tom Lawry will present the Keynote address. He is an AI transformation advisor and former Microsoft executive during the Opening Session on Wednesday, June 19. Mr. Lawry will explore the role that AI can play in health care, specifically in the eye and vision care field.

Courses. The conference offers in excess of 250 hours of CE and professional development across more than 187 CE courses. The offerings range from clinical lectures to hands-on workshops and demonstrations of the latest technologic and scope advancements.

The course highlights will focus on every aspect of ophthalmic care, ie, anterior segment, contact lenses, functional vision, glaucoma general optometry skills, injection skills training, low vision/vision impairment, neuro-optometry, optometric surgical procedures, public health, pharmacology, practice management, perioperative management of ophthalmic surgery, sports and performance vision, systemic disease, and treatment and management of ocular disease.

In addition to these topics, there is also a focus on team care in a number of courses in a combined, doctor-paraoptometric setting intended for care teams to learn together and a number of hands-on workshops, ranging from practical, office-based procedures to paraoptometric skill-building. A full 57 hours of CE credit will be devoted to this integrated, doctor-paraoptometric education. Attendees can explore topics ranging from practice management and systemic disease, the intricacies of billing and coding, and surgical procedures or mental health. They will experience the power of collaborative learning and elevate coordination within the practice through this unique, team-driven educational experience.

Speakers. Industry-renowned optometric lecturers, experts, and thought leaders, over 150 in all, will provide insights and experience and bring research results and knowledge to the fore to enhance participants’ clinical and practice management skills and knowledge base.

Residency Summit & Career Fair. Optometry students can learn more about residencies and find their best fit. In addition, they can make valuable connects with leaders and organizations about career opportunities and additional paths to consider in the optometry industry. This event is scheduled for Friday, June 21, from 1- to 2:30 pm Central Daylight Time for the Residency Summit and from 1-to 4 pm Central Daylight Time for the Career Fair.

Education Theater. The expanded Education Theater can be found in Eye Care Square in the Exhibit Hall. Education Theater, which boasts 7 all new courses this year, invites attendees to immerse themselves in the Eye Care Square's vibrant, exciting atmosphere.
