Two leaders in optometry are coming together to expand their suite of services for independent practices.

IDOC and Three Rivers Optical announce merger

Today, IDOC—the largest independent optometric alliance—and Three Rivers Optical—a top independent optical laboratory—announced a merger, which will unite their shared mission of continuing growth and success of eye care professionals. The intention is to create an unmatched suite of practice enhancement and lab services for independent practices by leveraging their combined 75+ year history of serving the optometry community.

“Through the addition of Three Rivers Optical, IDOC will add lab services to our industry-leading suite of innovative products and services designed to support the growth of independent practices. Offering lab services through Three Rivers Optical is the perfect complement to IDOC’s existing best-in-class vendor programs, consulting, peer-to-peer networking, practice accounting, marketing, human resources, and inventory management services,” said Oliver Spandow, COO of IDOC, in a statement.

Both IDOC and Three Rivers Optical will continue to operate under their current names and with their existing leadership inside the combined company. This includes Steve Seibert and Mary Ann Zappas, who are the second generation of family ownership of Three Rivers Optical.

“We are delighted to enhance and grow our lab alongside IDOC’s suite of services. The combination of IDOC and Three Rivers Optical unifies two innovative companies that are deeply connected and committed to serve the best interests of independent optometry,” said Seibert in a statement.

IDOC has remained committed to building a powerful community of independent optometrists for over 22 years. Their suite of practice management tools, advice, and support systems drive business growth for 3,000+ independent optometrists. Members benefit from IDOC’s time-saving services, expert consulting, metrics-based business solutions, negotiated vendor discounts, and peer-to-peer networking.

Three Rivers Optical is a family-owned eyewear manufacturer for top lenses on the market as well as their own private label. Operating since 1969, Three Rivers Optical has grown to provide consulting services to ophthalmologists, optometrists, and opticians via their customer service, sales, and technology teams.

“The superior quality and customer service offered from industry leader Three Rivers Optical is the perfect strategic addition for IDOC,” said Dave Brown, president and CEO of IDOC. “Both organizations are committed to independent optometry and desire for this segment of the industry to prosper and grow. We believe independent practitioners are well-positioned for the future, and the products and services that we offer together will be a key to their long-term prosperity.”
