Quantel Medical, a division of Lumibird Medical, has announced the launch of its new POCKET III handheld pachymeter. According to a news release, the pachymeter is the lightest handheld product on the market, weighing in at 60 grams.1

"In addition to the importance of being able to calculate corneal thickness in pre-refractive surgery, pachymetry is essential to calculate and correlate with intraocular pressure. In fact, 80 million* people suffer from glaucoma,” said François Checinski, Ultrasound product manager, in the release. “As a practitioner, you need to know the exact thickness of the cornea to calculate the ‘true’ value of the IOP that depends on this measurement. That’s why it is important to be able to measure corneal thickness anywhere and at any time which can be done using the POCKET III.”

The pachymeter’s measurement range is from 150 to 1200 μm and has a 30 MHz probe. A complimentary holder also allows the probe tip to be soaked in a disinfectant solution after use.1

““This new pachymeter joins our wide range of new-generation ultrasound platforms, offering A/B/S/UBM/P modes exams, and further consolidates our position as world leader in ophthalmic ultrasound,” said Jean-Marc Gendre, CEO of Lumibird Medical, in the release.

The pachymeter is CE-marked and USA FDA 510K approved.
