Jordana Joy:

So now I'd like to switch gears and talk about your presentation, "Dry Eye Jeopardy Returns." Can you give us an overview of that?

Lisa Hornick, OD, MBA, FAAO:

So we did Dry Eye Jeopardy last year, and it was a huge success. Everyone loved it. It was a lot of fun, and it is exactly like the game show. So we have 6 different categories, and they range from pretty easy all the way to very difficult. And then, of course, you get more points on those more difficult questions. We have 6 different categories. So we have dry eye diagnosis, we have pharmaceuticals or topical medications. We have at home therapies. We have in office, therapies or treatments. And then we have therapeutic contact lenses and new innovations. We have about 25 attendees, and we're going to put them into so about 5 groups of 5 or so. And so they actually have buzzers, and they buzz in when they want to answer the question, and they can choose from any category. We actually enhanced this one, so we have music this time, and we want it to be as similar to the game show as possible. So there's a daily double, there's a Final Jeopardy, and they do get prizes at the end for the winning teams.

Joy:

It sounds like a lot of fun.

Hornick:

Very interactive.

Joy:

Right. Do you need to be a dry eye expert to do well at this game?

Hornick:

You don't. You don't need to be a dry expert. You know, if you are able to get some of those beginning categories, which most of us are, you know, most optometrists are able to do, for sure, you might need to be more of a dry expert to get the really challenging ones. But this is a game that anybody can play, and anybody does have the possibility of winning, depending on who's on your team.

Joy:

So what do you find is really the main benefit of being able to make something like this fun and educational?

Hornick:

There's so many benefits to it. It's just it's a lot of fun. And you know, even with our children, they learn so much better through play. And as adults, we like to play too. So it keeps things exciting. It keeps things really moving. If maybe dry eye disease is not one of your passions, it is one of mine, but some people might not enjoy it as much, but at least you can learn through having a good time during the game.

Joy:

Yeah, was there anything that we haven't touched on on either talks that you wanted to touch on?

Hornick

I'm just really excited to see everyone and share our knowledge. I love Academy because I learned so much as well. It's just a really wonderful meeting. So excited.

Joy:

Well, thank you very much for taking the time today, Dr Hornick. It's been a pleasure.

Hornick:

You too. Thank you so much.
