Johnson & Johnson slated to present new contact lens data at Academy 2025
Johnson & Johnson has announced new data on its Acuvue Oasys Max 1-Day for Astigmatism contact lenses that demonstrated higher end-of-day comfort when compared to Dailies Total1 for Astigmatism.
Just in time for the American Academy of Optometry’s (AAOpt) meeting in Boston, Massachusetts later this week, Johnson & Johnson has announced new data on its Acuvue Oasys Max 1-Day for Astigmatism contact lenses that demonstrated higher end-of-day comfort when compared to Dailies Total1 for Astigmatism.1 The data will be presented at the meeting, running from October 8-11, according to a news release.
“At Johnson & Johnson, our relentless pursuit of innovation drives us to develop solutions that truly transform lives and makes vision possible for more than 40 million people around the world. The ACUVUE OASYS MAX 1-Day family of contact lenses exemplifies our commitment to empowering more patients to see the world with clarity and confidence every day,” said Peter Menziuso, company group chairman, Vision at Johnson & Johnson, in the release.
Giovanna Olivares, OD, will be presenting 2 posters on the company’s behalf, titled “Patient reported vision outcomes for 2 daily disposable toric soft contact lenses” and “Evaluation of treatment effects in a study comparing 2 daily disposable toric soft contact lenses,” while Appenteng Osae, OD, PhD, FAAO, will be presenting “Extending vision correction for more presbyopic contact lens wearers with Acuvue Oasys Max 1-Day Multifocal for Astigmatism” for Johnson & Johnson.1
The first poster presents research that found that over half (62%) of patients preferred the Acuvue Oasys lens for overall vision, while 18% of patients preferred Dailies Total1 for Astigmatism. The Oasys lens were also rated higher in overall opinion and in all comfort metrics in the study. Regarding vision on computer screens and digital device use, the lens was also preferred (65%) in comparison to the dailies (16%).1 “The preference highlights the benefits of the combined innovations of TearStable Technology, OptiBlue Light Filter Technology, and Blink Stabilized Design, a design that naturally realigns with every blink and is more independent of gravity, eye gaze and head position,” the release stated.
The second poster found that Acuvue Oasys Max 1-Day for Astigmatism 3.3x were also preferred by patients in comparison to Dailies Total1 for Astigmatism. When the Oasys lens was worn after the dailies, positive feedback of overall opinion increased to 80% compared to 33.3% when the dailies were worn after the Oasys lens.1 “Statistically this is known as an ‘order effect,’ meaning once a patient experiences better performance with a lens, their opinion of a prior lens experience can decrease,” the release stated.
The third posterwill share results from 2 studies which demonstrate that Acuvue Oasys Max 1-Day Multifocal for Astigmatism, when used by a population with 1.00 D to 1.75 D of refractive astigmatism, provides similar vision quality to the Acuvue Oasys Max 1-Day Multifocal for a population with 0.0 D to 0.75 D of refractive astigmatism. Johnson & Johnson stated that the new multifocal toric lens thus has the potential to introduce daily disposable multifocal contact lenses to a new population of patients with presbyopia.1
“New data illustrates the superior advantages of our ACUVUE OASYS MAX 1-Day Contact Lens technology versus competitive technology. The head-to-head data distinctly highlights the positive impact our lens technology has on patients’ vision, reaffirming our leadership in material sciences and contact lens innovation,” said Caroline Blackie, OD, MS, PhD, FAAO, vice president of Medical Affairs, Vision, at Johnson & Johnson, in the release.
