Vizz presbyopia eye drop expands to Australia, New Zealand

LENZ Therapeutics and Arrotex Pharmaceuticals announce exclusive license and commercialization agreement for Vizz in Australia and New Zealand.

Arrotex gains exclusive rights

According to a new announcement, LENZ Therapeutics and Arrotex Pharmaceuticals entered an exclusive license and commercialization agreement for Vizz (aceclidine ophthalmic solution) 1.44% covering Australia and New Zealand.¹ Arrotex will register and commercialize the once-daily drop for presbyopia across both countries, marking the fifth ex-US commercialization partnership for Vizz.¹ LENZ will receive an upfront license payment plus a significant share of gross margin from product sales in the region.¹

“We are thrilled to bring this innovative therapy to Australia and New Zealand for the treatment of presbyopia to the millions of adults frustrated with their near vision,” said Dennis Bastas, Chairman and Group Chief Executive Officer of DBG Health, the parent company of Arrotex Pharmaceuticals, in the release. “LENZ’s innovative treatment represents a first-to-market, once-daily solution that can provide visual freedom from reading glasses, offering the potential for greater visual independence and improved quality of life.”

The agreement extends international reach for a drop already available to prescribers in the United States.² Vizz received FDA approval in July 2025 as the first aceclidine-based option for presbyopia and became commercially available in October 2025.² For ODs managing presbyopic patients, continued global expansion signals ongoing momentum behind pharmacologic near-vision correction as an option alongside reading glasses and multifocal contact lenses.

Arrotex obtains exclusive rights to register and commercialize Vizz for presbyopia across Australia and New Zealand under the agreement.¹ Arrotex, part of DBG Health and described as Australia's largest and most diversified pharmaceutical company, brings an established pharmacy partnership network to the rollout.¹ The company already distributes a broad range of prescription medicines across therapeutic areas in the region.¹

LENZ will collect an upfront payment along with a significant profit share of gross margin generated from sales, terms consistent with the company's four prior ex-US licensing arrangements.¹ LENZ continues to hold direct commercialization rights for Vizz in the United States, where the drop launched in October 2025.² Arrotex will lead regulatory registration steps required before the product reaches pharmacies in either country.¹ The agreement does not disclose a specific registration timeline or an expected launch date for either market.¹

Vizz mechanism and US launch

Vizz is a predominantly pupil-selective miotic interacting with the iris with minimal ciliary muscle stimulation, producing a pinhole effect extending depth of focus to improve near vision.¹ The formulation received FDA approval in July 2025 as the first and only aceclidine-based eye drop indicated for presbyopia, a condition affecting approximately 128 million adults in the United States.² Pivotal Phase 3 CLARITY trial data supported the approval, with the drop shown to restore clear near vision for up to 10 hours per use.³

Since the October 2025 US launch, more than 2500 eye care professionals have prescribed Vizz, and 40% of those prescribers have written multiple prescriptions, resulting in more than 5,000 prescriptions filled through the end of October 2025.⁴ Vizz is preservative-free and supplied in single-dose vials, attributes relevant for ODs assessing ocular surface tolerability among presbyopic patients who also manage dry eye or wear contact lenses.¹ No new safety signals were noted in the announcement beyond those described at the time of FDA approval.²

“We are pleased to expand our global commercial partnership network for VIZZ into Australia and New Zealand. Arrotex represents our fifth ex-US commercialization partnership for VIZZ, underscoring our commitment to broadening access to our transformative presbyopia therapy worldwide,” said Eef Schimmelpennink, President and Chief Executive Officer of LENZ Therapeutics, in the release. “Arrotex is a leading commercial partner in Australia and New Zealand, with an unmatched network of pharmacy partnerships and strong track record of bringing innovative branded medicines to patients. We look forward to working together to bring VIZZ to patients across the region.”

ODs practicing in the United States can already prescribe Vizz directly, and this agreement does not change domestic access or dosing.¹ For ODs with patients traveling to or relocating within Australia and New Zealand, registration and pharmacy availability will depend on Arrotex's rollout timeline, which was not specified in the announcement.¹ US prescribers should continue counseling presbyopic patients on the once-daily dosing schedule and expected up to 10 hour duration of near-vision improvement.²
