Kerry Gelb, OD: Great news! The Open Your Eyes movie has been picked up by Amazon Prime, and at any time in the near future, we are in the queue. We can’t tell you when it is going to be on Prime, but we know that we are in the queue for Amazon Prime. So, look for the Open Your Eyes movie.
The Open Your Eyes movie is about the importance of the optometrist and why the optometrist is so important in primary care. It also tells us about the eye and how important the eye is in the diagnosis of systemic disease. People don’t realize it but there are close to 300 systemic diseases that can manifest in the eye.
Many systemic diseases manifest in the eye, and the eye is the first place that the doctor will diagnose a systemic disease. Now that our technology is getting so good and we can see close to 5 µm in the eye with new technology, we are picking up disease, especially vascular disease, before primary care and cardiovascular doctors.
