AAOpt 2025: The proven reliability of daily toric lenses

Mark Schaeffer, OD, FAAL, details his poster presentation titled "Practitioner satisfaction and experience with a novel daily disposable toric contact lens in a real-world evaluation."

Mark Schaefer, OD, FAAO, who practices in Birmingham, Alabama, provides an in-depth overview of a daily disposable toric lens study, highlighting its remarkable performance and practitioner satisfaction. He presented the findings from the study in his American Academy of Optometry Academy 2025 poster presentation titled "Practitioner satisfaction and experience with a novel daily disposable toric contact lens in a real-world evaluation."

Shaeffer stated that the INFUSE One-Day for Astigmatism lens stands out for its exceptional ease of fitting and administration, with practitioners reporting high success rates and patient satisfaction. The lens's core strength lies in its innovative design and material composition. It features an infused material with high wetability, breathability, and moisture content. The ProBalance technology incorporates moisturizers, osmoprotectants, and electrolytes to maintain corneal homeostasis. Additionally, its optical line design ensures rotational stability, providing consistent vision across different lens positions.

A key finding from the study is the lens's performance in real-world settings. Over 50 doctors participated, with each fitting approximately 30 patients, creating a robust dataset that reflects typical optometric practices. The study revealed that 90% of doctors found the lens extremely easy to fit, with clear orientation lines and minimal complications.

Schaeffer emphasizes the historical challenge of fitting toric lenses, noting that astigmatic patients are often underserved. Many practitioners have been hesitant to recommend toric lenses due to past experiences of complex fitting and patient dissatisfaction. This study challenges those perceptions by demonstrating consistent success and high patient comfort.

The research highlights the lens's ability to address vision and comfort concerns for astigmatic patients. By providing a reliable, easy-to-fit solution, the lens empowers practitioners to confidently correct astigmatism and improve patient outcomes.

Crucially, the study validates the lens's performance beyond clinical trials, showing that its effectiveness translates directly to everyday practice. Practitioners can now approach toric lens fitting with increased confidence, knowing they have a product that delivers consistent, high-quality vision correction.
