Euclid Vision Corporation launches new Be Free Day lens for myopia management
The lens was developed in collaboration with Brien Holden Vision Institute (BHVI).
A new daily disposable has now hit the market for myopia management. Euclid Vision Corporation has officially introduced its Be Free Day lens, a silicone hydrogel (Toufilcon B) daily disposable. The new lens utilizes dual action technology developed by Brien Holden Vision Institute (BHVI), which worked in collaboration with Euclid to create the lens, according to a news release.1
“Approximately 35% of children globally are myopic and early intervention is increasingly essential for protecting long-term visual health,” said Euclid CEO Linda Chang in the release. “All children deserve healthy vision and treatment that fits naturally and comfortably into their daily routines, and Euclid is honored to introduce our newest lens to continue to support optical health throughout their lives.”
The Multistep Technology of the lens is “a proprietary, gradual multi-step optical approach engineered to support effective peripheral myopia defocus while maintaining high-quality central vision,” according to the release. Additionally, the lens consists of an advanced biomimetic surface material in order to support enhanced wettability, deposit resistance, and consistent daily wear. No new fitting guide, equipment, or workflow changes are required for the Be Free lenses.1
For patients who prefer the lens, comfort and visual performance were cited by 8 out of 10 patients for why they favor Be Free.1 Additionally, patients rated overall visual satisfaction at a 9.23 out of 10 with the lens.2
“Our partnership with BHVI brings together Euclid’s pioneering work in myopia management lens innovation and BHVI’s long-standing research in myopia optics,” Chang stated in the release. “The result is Bee Free Day lens – a daily disposable designed for practical, real-world use. This lens reflects a balance of scientific insight and clinician-focused design, helping eye care professionals reach more children during the critical years of visual development.”
Be Free’s silicone hydrogel material enhances ocular health and comfort with a high oxygen transmissibility (91 Dk / 114Dk/t) and Class 2 UV protection. Specifically, the high oxygen transmissibility aids in the comfort in young, active wearers by supporting corneal physiology. The lens is engineered to fit like a spherical daily disposable soft lens, with powers ranging from -0.50 D to -6.00 D in 0.25 D steps, a diameter of 14.2 mm, and a base curve of 8.5.1
Although the lens is available in 30- and 90-pack options, Euclid is also offering the lens in 10-lens trial packs for early patient experiences.1
