New York City- During the Contact Lens Global Forum, a partnership between Vision Expo East and the British Contact Lens Association, Justin Bazan, OD, Optometry Times Editorial Advisory Board member, offered up tips for using e-mail and social media to build and maintain your patient base.

With Facebook receiving 20% of total page views on the Internet, it is important that your business engage on the social media site by commenting, liking, and sharing items with patients and other eyecare professionals, Dr. Bazan says. Your practice’s posts should be a combination of friendly, helpful, and fun.

Dr. Bazan says he sees an opportunity to reach out and reclaim a customer every time he gets a verification request from an online optical vendor. He contacts the patient to let her know about the services and pricing his practice offers in an effort to keep that patient in his practice.

Dr. Bazan also recommends using e-mail to send out a reminder to patients when it is time for them to renew their prescription and order new lenses.
